BLACK INSULATING TUBING

BLACK INSULATING TUBING

Black insulating tubing is a key component in cable jointing and termination kits, primarily used to provide mechanical protection and electrical insulation over jointed or terminated cable sections. It is commonly made of heat shrinkable polyolefin and is widely recognized for its durability, insulation properties, and weather resistance. The black color is standard for many power cable accessories, offering UV resistance and a professional finish.

Purpose and Function

In the process of jointing or terminating power cables, the cable’s original insulation is removed or modified. After electrical connections are made, the joint or termination area needs to be re-insulated and protected. Black insulating tubing is applied over the prepared area to:

  • Restore electrical insulation over conductors and joints
  • Provide a protective outer layer to withstand mechanical stress and abrasion
  • Seal the cable against environmental elements like moisture, dust, and chemicals
  • Enhance UV and weather resistance for outdoor installations

Key Features

  • High Dielectric Strength: Ensures safe insulation even under medium or low voltage conditions.
  • Heat Shrinkable: Shrinks tightly over the cable when heated, forming a compact and secure layer.
  • UV and Weather Resistant: Ideal for both indoor and outdoor use, especially in exposed environments.
  • Abrasion and Impact Resistant: Provides strong mechanical protection in harsh environments.
  • Flexible and Tough: Accommodates bending, vibration, and movement without cracking or splitting.
  • Wide Compatibility: Suitable for various cable sizes and types, including XLPE, PILC, and EPR cables.
