STRAIGHT BOOT FOR BUSHING

STRAIGHT BOOT FOR BUSHING

A Straight Boot is a moulded insulating cover designed to provide straight-line insulation and protection at the cable termination point — where the cable connects directly to equipment bushings, terminals, or conductors without a sharp bend.

Unlike a right-angle boot (used when the cable needs to turn 90°), the straight boot allows the cable to enter equipment in a straight path, offering clean alignment and stress relief while providing electrical and environmental protection.

Construction and Material

Straight boots are typically made from high-quality, durable insulating materials like:

  • EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) rubber — known for flexibility, UV resistance, and weatherproofing
  • Silicone rubber — offering excellent electrical performance and thermal stability

Key properties of straight boots include:

  • High dielectric strength to withstand medium- and high-voltage operating conditions
  • Resistance to UV radiation, ozone, and harsh weather — critical for outdoor installations
  • Excellent hydrophobicity to resist water absorption and prevent surface tracking
  • Thermal endurance for wide temperature fluctuations (typically –40°C to +120°C or more)
  • Elasticity for tight, secure fitting over different cable and bushing sizes
  • Mechanical toughness to withstand external impacts and vibrations
