RIGHT ANGLE BOOT-RUBBER MOULDED

RIGHT ANGLE BOOT-RUBBER MOULDED

A Right Angle Boot is a moulded insulating cover designed to protect the connection point where a cable’s conductor joins equipment such as transformers, switchgear, motors, or bushings — especially when the cable approaches at a 90-degree angle.

Its primary functions are:

  • Electrical insulation of exposed conductive parts
  • Environmental sealing against moisture, dust, and contaminants
  • Mechanical protection against abrasion and accidental impact
  • Stress relief to prevent bending forces from damaging the cable or lug

When made from rubber moulded material, it offers excellent flexibility, toughness, and long-lasting resistance to electrical and environmental stresses.

Construction and Material

Right Angle Boots are generally made from high-quality EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) rubber or silicone rubber. Key properties include:

  • High dielectric strength to withstand operating voltages
  • Excellent elasticity to accommodate movement and vibration
  • Resistance to UV radiation, ozone, and weathering (especially important for outdoor use)
  • Thermal stability across a wide temperature range (typically –40°C to +120°C or higher)
  • Good chemical resistance against oils, greases, and industrial pollutants
  • Hydrophobic properties, reducing water tracking risk

Some versions are also available with semi-conductive layers or graded insulation for even better control of electrical fields at high voltages.

Applications in Termination Kits

  • Used for terminations at equipment bushings, where space constraints demand a compact, angled solution
  • Ideal for indoor and outdoor terminations on transformers, switchgear, motors, and junction boxes
  • Frequently specified where phase-to-phase or phase-to-ground clearances are limited
  • Especially important in high-voltage (11kV, 22kV, 33kV, and above) terminations where flashover risks are higher
